MAKING A LIVING, MAKING A DIFFERENCE;
TOP TIPS FOR YOUR WORK PLACE!
Molehills are easier.
At Leap, we believe that the ultimate success of all our efforts to stop damaging the planet will depend on a few simple but key changes to our every-day sub-conscious living...
If we create a series of laborious and unrealistic mountains to climb, in spite of ourselves we will never do it.
So.here are some simple tips for making a difference
ACKNOWLDEGE
- Your ability to make a difference
Write down 5 things you can do to make a positive difference in the workplace this week - see how many you manage to achieve.
- The world outside your window
We are a generation that spends little time outside, walking to work, exploring the countryside or just getting our hands dirty in the soil. It is only unstructured, natural spaces outside that can truly nurture a sense of self-discovery and connection with our natural environment - anyway - how are we expected to get motivated about the environment if we're not out there appreciating it? Go for a walk- find a green space of your own..
SUPPORT
- Local businesses and ethical trade
Persuade your catering manager or whoever buys the tea and coffee to invest in fair trade products, and buy organic milk locally or from a milkman - who uses recycled bottles and cuts down on your trips to the shops. Check out whether you can use local suppliers and cut down on transport miles whilst supporting the
local economy.
If you have a garden outside your office, why not nurture a haven for birds and butterflies by planting new shrubs to encourage biodiversity?
Find ways that your business can get involved with local clubs, schools and community initiatives, it doesn't have to be financial, but any involvement including offering business advice and consultation can make
a difference
Check out who you're banking with - where are they investing your money? Is it being used to support arms trade, sweat-shops or child-labour??? Have a look at some ethical banks and financial institutions that operate their own triple-bottom line www.triodos.co.uk
SHARE
Car sharing is a great idea - it cuts fuel emissions, reduces your petrol costs and gives you the chance to catch up socially with colleagues
A problem shared is a problem halved - the world would probably be a much happier place if we all took heed of this!
Lighten-up! Most reported illness and one of the biggest strains on both the NHS and employers due to sick days taken throughout the year is stress! - in many cases this can be avoided by simply putting measures in place to make sure your employees and colleagues are happy, and relaxed in a pleasant work environment.
REDUCE, RE-USE, AND RECYCLE!
Don't leave PCs on stand-by - save energy and turn everything off before you leave the office - lights, fax machine, sockets and most importantly your own 'at work' switch!
Make use of your old loo rolls, metal parts, ink cartridges, and office junk - The Children's Scrapstore is a national art initiative workshop for children where your odds and ends can be made into art. For more information and what you can donate visit;

thrown away
